Courses and mentoring across two departments and two universities, connecting embedded systems, sustainability, and Indigenous futures.
Beyond the classroom, I have demonstrated leadership in computing education through keynote and invited roles at venues such as the Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing, as well as engagements with AISES, SACNAS, and multiple NSF-funded initiatives to expand access to computer science education. My work integrates community engagement across teaching, mentoring, and research, and has been recognized with honors including Northwestern's Daniel I. Linzer Award for Faculty Excellence (2021). I have also contributed to national and global conversations through invited roles with the United Nations DESA and the National Academies, alongside public scholarship and media reaching millions. These efforts align closely with my research, including partnerships with organizations such as AISES and the Kapor Center and collaborations with Native Hawaiian and Indigenous communities to develop computing infrastructure and education.

CS 3251 β Computer Networking I
The main objective of this course is to provide students with a rigorous understanding of computer networking concepts, protocols, and technologies using the current Internet as the specific case study. Even though we will cover the major Internet protocols in some detail, the emphasis will be on fundamental problems, ideas, and algorithms. Covered topics include: layering, the web and video streaming as network applications, naming, reliability, congestion/flow control, routing, internetworking, and wireless networks.
CS 8803-SDG β Computing and Sustainability
An interdisciplinary course exploring the intersection of computing and sustainability, covering economics, business, operations management, environmental science, ethics, and social justice beyond typical engineering and computing technologies. Students confront how sustainability initiatives fail or are fraught with issues β "greenwashing" projects led by large industries and tech companies, carbon credit fraud, nuclear-powered LLM training, RAMageddon, and the national data center buildout (e.g., Project Stargate) β to understand computing's potential for good, and for harm, amid the ecological, social, and economic forces reshaping our world.

EECS 346 β Microprocessor System Design
Teaches how to design systems based on microprocessors: the structure of microprocessors, how they are programmed, the circuitry needed to interface to other devices, the other kinds of devices (memories, transmission devices, sensors, controllers, etc.) used to build systems, and how all of these interact in terms of both signals and timing. Assumes a basic knowledge of digital design and programming at the assembly and higher levels; no knowledge of electricity beyond a primitive understanding of voltage and current is required.
ECE 347 β Microprocessor System Projects
A projects course done in small groups, paired with scheduled class meetings for presentation of project specifications and designs, peer review, peer help for projects having difficulties, and seminars presented by students and the professor on the hardware and software in use. Meetings continue throughout the quarter and attendance is required. There is a significant amount of writing and presentation β an essential part of engineering β since feedback from peers is invaluable and the ideas learned from other projects build your own experience and knowledge.
EECS 365 β Internet-of-Things Sensors, Systems, and Applications
An in-depth review of advanced technology surrounding the Internet of Things, including wireless sensing networks, wearables, drones, privacy, machine learning, and energy-efficient computing. Application domains in health, infrastructure monitoring, green computing, and others are explored, following a seminar format alongside exploration of new research areas through a project proposal.
